How to fix congress

MY 3-PART PLEDGE

The policies, strategies and tactics of the Democrats who have been in Washington for decades got us Trump twice.

I’m running for Congress on a three-part pledge that any Democrat in the country could adopt today – and if they did, Democrats would get more progressive policies passed in Washington and win more elections across the country.

Term Limits

No Corporate PAC Money

Monthly In-Person Town Halls

1. Term Limits

  • My Pledge: I’ll push for a Constitutional amendment to enact term limits and serve only five terms, which is 10 years. The House of Representatives was meant to be a place where people served their communities then stepped aside to allow the voters to pick someone else to represent the district. That has stopped, and Congress is worse for it.
  • Rep. Sherman’s Actions: He will have been in Congress for 30 years when this term is over and has been running for office non-stop since 1990, when I was three years old.

2. No Corporate Money in Campaigns

  • My Pledge: I won’t accept corporate PAC money to my campaign. Campaigns should be funded by people, and it's time to stop letting corporations buy influence with campaign donations.
  • Rep. Sherman’s Actions: He has taken nearly $2 million in corporate money throughout his time in Congress, and then consistently votes in favor of policies that benefit those same corporations.

3. Monthly In-Person Town Halls

  • My Pledge: I'll hold an in-person town hall in the district every month I’m in office. Whether it’s answering questions or helping with constituent services, I’ll make sure everyone in the 32nd District has access to me in a way that’s convenient for them.
  • Rep. Sherman’s Actions: On his own website, the Congressman admits that he hasn’t hosted an in-person town hall in over five years. Since his in-person town hall November 10th, 2019, Rep. Sherman has only held telephone town halls so he can stay in his $2.1 million home in Washington rather than come to the district. Even when all he had to do was pick up the phone, he only held six telephone town halls in all of 2024.
